MotoGP 2027 Silly Season Nears Climax as Six Seats Remain

With 16 of 22 seats settled, the fight for the final 2027 MotoGP rides is reaching its conclusion. Trackhouse, Tech3 and the Honda camp hold the keys to the last open doors.

Key Takeaways

  • 1."I would say we're probably 75% of the way there," Marks said.
  • 2."The biggest question was that one, if after the second operation I was able to recover — but I am able." The other live question sits inside the Honda camp, where David Alonso and Diogo Moreira both hold 2027 contracts but have yet to learn whether they will line up for the factory team or LCR.
  • 3."I'm very calm about it — because most of the teams have signed their riders!" Steiner said.

The 2027 MotoGP grid is taking shape, and the final pieces are close to falling into place. With 16 of the championship's 22 seats already accounted for, attention has narrowed to a handful of teams still weighing their options — and the men running them say resolution is near.

None is closer than Trackhouse. Owner Justin Marks put a number on it when asked how far along the American squad's planning had progressed. "I would say we're probably 75% of the way there," Marks said. "I think we're really close in getting our rider line-up and management solidified."

Marks added a timeline that should bring clarity before the summer break. "I would suspect that there's going to be a very clear picture of the future of this team within the next 10-14 days," he said.

The squad's reshuffle stems partly from Ai Ogura's anticipated move to Yamaha and the expected departure of team principal Davide Brivio for a senior Honda role. That leaves at least one Trackhouse Aprilia seat in play, with Enea Bastianini among the names linked and Moto2 points leader Manu Gonzalez emerging as a frontrunner — a shift that has left current rider Raul Fernandez's place under question.

At Tech3, KTM's satellite outfit, the mood is similarly calm. Team chief Guenther Steiner — better known to many from his Formula 1 days — was unbothered by the slow pace of announcements. "I'm very calm about it — because most of the teams have signed their riders!" Steiner said. Senna Agius, the Australian Moto2 talent, is widely favoured for a Tech3 seat, with the team also monitoring the fitness of Maverick Vinales.

Vinales, recovering from a second shoulder operation, insisted he would be ready. "I'm going to recover 100%," he said. "The biggest question was that one, if after the second operation I was able to recover — but I am able."

The other live question sits inside the Honda camp, where David Alonso and Diogo Moreira both hold 2027 contracts but have yet to learn whether they will line up for the factory team or LCR. Moreira was relaxed about the uncertainty. "I don't know, I don't know yet — but at the end I have the contract, so I'm happy," he said.

Hanging over the lower end of the grid is the situation of Jack Miller. The veteran Australian, linked with a Pramac Yamaha exit as the team moves to finalise a deal for Izan Guevara, is reported to be short of offers for 2027 — a reminder that, even as the grid nears completion, not every familiar name is guaranteed a place on it.
