Ty Gibbs finally broke through for his first NASCAR Cup Series victory, capturing the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway in dramatic fashion on Sunday.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver edged Ryan Blaney by a mere 0.055 seconds in what marked the closest Cup Series finish at Bristol in 35 years. The thrilling conclusion came in Gibbs' 131st career start, making him the 207th different driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race.
Blaney, driving the No. 12 Ford, had to settle for second place after leading 190 laps during the 500-lap event. The Team Penske driver appeared positioned for victory but couldn't hold off Gibbs' late charge to the checkered flag.
Kyle Larson dominated much of the race, winning both stages and leading a race-high 284 laps in his No. 5 Chevrolet. However, the Hendrick Motorsports driver had to settle for third place, finishing 0.229 seconds behind the winner.
Joey Logano finished seventh, followed by Ryan Preece in eighth. Denny Hamlin, Gibbs' Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, came home ninth, while Carson Hocevar completed the top 10.
The race ran 505 laps with multiple caution periods affecting strategy throughout the event. Gibbs' victory came after making seven pit stops during the race, while Blaney and Larson each made nine stops.
Bubba Wallace finished 11th, followed by Daniel Suarez and Chris Buescher. Brad Keselowski and AJ Allmendinger completed the top 15 finishers.
The victory marks a significant milestone for the 22-year-old Gibbs, who has been seeking his breakthrough win since joining the Cup Series. His triumph continues Joe Gibbs Racing's strong start to the 2026 season.
The dramatic finish at Bristol sets up an intriguing continuation of the NASCAR Cup Series season, with Gibbs now officially in victory lane and Reddick maintaining his championship points lead. Next up for the series will be another opportunity for drivers to showcase their skills on one of NASCAR's most challenging tracks.
